If you’re anything like me, and if you’re reading this site then you’re at least a little like me, then you love a good uniform. A while back I had the idea of doing a tournament-style series of posts to determine who has the best uniforms in all of professional baseball. The format I settled on is doing league by league tournaments where the winner will advance to a championship round against other league winners. There are a lot of leagues and every league will require multiple rounds to get to a winner, so this will take a while.
The basic mechanics of the tournament are as follows. I’m using a matchup randomizer to pit teams from within a league against one another. A poll will run for a week’s time (specifically ending at 10:00 Central Standard Time 7 days after the post first published) and whichever team’s uniforms gather the most votes advances to the next round of their league tournament. And so on and so forth until a champion emerges from that league. I’m not doing throwbacks or alternate jerseys at this time. I’m keeping it simple and going with the main home/away uniforms for each team. That means you are judging a team based on both of their main unis. You may love a team’s home gear but hate their away uniform. You have to take the good with the bad and decide which team you prefer overall. Important to note that this poll is taking into account the entire uniform. Not just the jersey or the hat, but the jersey, hat, pants; the whole shebang.
There are countless articles and sites that cover affiliated ball uniforms. I’ll have entries for affiliated teams at some point, but this website tends to focus more on unaffiliated ball. That makes it fitting that this tournament starts off with an unaffiliated league. First on the docket is the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
