This is a short and sweet update. It’s been a while since I made my initial post about my personal policy, as well as the general policy at Words Above Replacement, regarding racist team names. To keep it simple, I don’t use them and the site doesn’t use them. This policy isn’t going to change because I don’t and can’t condone teams, from all over the world, who have decided it’s okay to be racist in their team name.
What does all this mean for you the reader? For those who have been here a while now you know it doesn’t mean a whole heck of a lot, but for those who are new, a quick primer. Unless the article is specifically about the racist nickname no author on this site will use that name. You won’t find it in articles, tags, through the search function, etc. As an example, if you want to find the current National League team in Atlanta you would need to look up Atlanta League National League Club. The Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente team in Mayagüez is only known as the Mayagüez Puerto Rican Club on this site.
That’s it, that’s the update, and those are the rules. If you have any issue with them, well, you probably shouldn’t be reading this site, to begin with.
